Bridge Coach is designed to help bridge players learn from the hands they play. To do that, we need to store and process some information about our users, their bridge sessions and how they use the service.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it and the choices available to you.

Bridge Coach is operated by Will Huggins, who is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide when creating an account

When you register for Bridge Coach, we may collect:

  • your name

  • your email address

  • your account details

  • your preferred bridge clubs

  • your partnerships

  • your bridge system and convention preferences

  • other profile information you choose to provide

We do not need or want more personal information than is necessary to provide the service.

Bridge results and session data

Bridge Coach allows users to upload or import bridge results.

These files may contain information such as:

  • player names

  • pair or team numbers

  • club names

  • event dates

  • rankings

  • scores

  • boards played

  • contracts

  • declarers

  • opening leads

  • tricks made

  • hand records

  • traveller information

Some uploaded result files may contain the names of bridge players who do not have a Bridge Coach account.

We use this information to display and analyse bridge sessions and to help registered users identify the hands they played.

Partnership information

You may choose to record information about your bridge partnerships, including:

  • partner name

  • bidding system

  • conventions

  • opening-lead agreements

  • signalling methods

  • discard agreements

This information is used to make coaching more relevant to the methods you and your partner actually play.

Coaching information

Bridge Coach may create and store coaching information based on your bridge activity, including:

  • coaching observations

  • strengths

  • suggested areas for improvement

  • recurring coaching themes

  • practice recommendations

  • feedback you provide about coaching

For example, if you tell us that a coaching suggestion was useful, not useful or incorrect, we may store that response so that we can improve your experience and evaluate the quality of the coaching system.

Technical and usage information

When you use Bridge Coach, we may collect technical information such as:

  • device and browser type

  • IP address

  • login activity

  • pages or features used

  • error and diagnostic information

  • approximate usage statistics

We use this primarily to operate, secure and improve the service.

2. How we use your information

We use personal information where necessary to provide and improve Bridge Coach.

This includes using information to:

  • create and manage your account

  • identify you in imported bridge results

  • display your sessions and boards

  • provide personalised bridge analysis and coaching

  • understand your partnerships and conventions

  • identify coaching trends over time

  • recommend relevant bridge tips or practice hands

  • allow you to replay hands

  • maintain clubs and bridge-session records

  • respond to support requests

  • maintain the security and reliability of the service

  • understand how Bridge Coach is being used

  • improve the quality of our coaching and analysis

3. Artificial intelligence and automated analysis

Bridge Coach may use artificial intelligence and other automated systems to analyse bridge hands and generate coaching.

Depending on the feature being used, analysis may consider information such as:

  • the cards

  • the auction

  • the contract

  • the result

  • traveller information

  • partnership conventions

  • previous coaching observations

AI-generated coaching can occasionally be wrong.

Bridge Coach is intended as a learning and analysis tool, and users are encouraged to review coaching critically and provide feedback where something does not look right.

Where third-party AI services are used, we will take reasonable steps to minimise the personal information sent to those services and to configure them appropriately for the service.

4. Legal bases for processing

Where UK or European data-protection law applies, we process personal information under one or more appropriate legal bases.

These may include:

Where processing is reasonably necessary to operate, secure or improve Bridge Coach and those interests are not overridden by your rights.

5. Information about other bridge players

Bridge results commonly identify everyone who took part in an event.

As a result, users may upload legitimate bridge-session data containing the names and results of other players.

We use this information principally as part of the historical record of a bridge event.

A player appearing in an uploaded result file does not automatically become a registered Bridge Coach user.

Where possible, Bridge Coach distinguishes between:

  • registered users

  • player identities appearing in bridge results

6. Clubs

Bridge Coach stores information about bridge clubs, which may include:

  • club name

  • location

  • website

  • national bridge-organisation affiliation

  • club identification number

  • uploaded sessions

Club records are generally organisational rather than personal information.

However, where club information is associated with an identifiable individual, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy.

7. Who we share information with

We may use trusted service providers to operate Bridge Coach.

These may include providers of:

  • website and application hosting

  • database services

  • authentication

  • email

  • analytics

  • artificial-intelligence services

  • error monitoring

  • payment processing, if paid services are introduced

These organisations may process information on our behalf where necessary to provide their services.

We do not give advertisers access to your private Bridge Coach activity.

8. International data transfers

Some of the service providers used by Bridge Coach may process information outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area.

Where this happens, we will use appropriate safeguards as required by applicable data-protection law.

9. How long we keep information

We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Bridge Coach and for legitimate operational, security and legal purposes.

Suggested retention periods should be confirmed before publication, including for:

  • bridge-session data

  • usage logs

  • coaching history

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information held by Bridge Coach.

No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we aim to minimise unnecessary access to personal information.

13. Children

Bridge Coach is primarily intended for bridge players and clubs.

If the service is made available to children, we will ensure that the appropriate privacy and consent arrangements are in place.

14. Deleting your account

You may request deletion of your Bridge Coach account by [TBC].

Deleting an account does not necessarily require the deletion of the underlying historical bridge results in which that player appeared.

For example, a club duplicate event may legitimately retain the names and results of all participants as part of the event record.

Where appropriate, we may instead remove the connection between a deleted account and historical session records.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Bridge Coach develops.

If we make significant changes, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to the attention of registered users.

The date at the top of this page shows when the policy was most recently updated.
